What I did
I was hired as a solo developer to fix the membership renewal system for a nationwide non-profit with thousands of existing members. First I transferred thousands of existing membership records from Salesforce to WordPress. Then I set up a way for members whose membership had expired to purchase through the new membership system, which allowed for auto-renew and manual cancellation.
After rebuilding the renewal system on WooCommerce Subscriptions with auto renewal, I set up an automated certificate system for members to eliminate paperwork. I built a complex form process with Gravity Forms and Gravity Flow involving multiple steps and interactions between three different user roles.
Every certificate carries a unique verification number, so anyone can confirm on the site that a person is still certified. A person can be un-certified if they stop paying membership fees or violate a condition.
The project was extremely successful: thousands of members were certified with no paperwork needing to be mailed, and they print their own certificates.
